The alarm goes off. Reluctantly roll out of bed, wash bowl, make oatmeal and coffee, wolf down said oatmeal and coffee, drive to Jack Rabbit. Conveniently park behind the UPS truck, then feed $2 into the muni-meter ever hour. Tally up the ride mileage from overnight. Grease personal region with liberal amounts of chamois cream. Ride 3-hours, waving to kids and pretty girls on the street, tourists on double-decker buses in the process. Get Gary on the bike, shower, fetch a McDonalds vanilla milkshake and chipotle burrito. Sleep for 25 minutes in conveniently parked car. Get Miles on the bike. Fetch egg salad sandwich on salt bagel from Murray's and tall coffee from Starbucks. Get Terry on bike. Shmooze with people on the street, while explaining that he's not a) for sale b) getting paid c) single. Get Raul on bike. Gratefully greet Shane, remember that his shift is even worse than yours. Drive home. Answer e-mails, briefly say hi to NSQ, go to sleep. Repeat, repeat, and repeat again.
Thankfully we're done. The riders were all great. No one complained, no one ever showed up late, no one had a significant injury. We're all tired, but we had a great time and rewarding ride.
Thank you to everyone who donated. (We're tallying the donations and will publish the data ASAP. We'll continue to accept online donations.) Thank you to all who came by to cheer and feed us. Thank you to JackRabbit and their staff for the generous use of their facility, encouragement and support. Everyone was great. Thank you to Pearl Izumi, Win Detergent, Saucony, Asics, and Brooks for their donations. And thank you to our riders who generously volunteered their time to help raise money and awareness for a fine organization.
