If you are a lifelong Yankees fan, a runner, and occasionally like to do something to support a good cause, it doesn't get much better than running a 5k in Yankee Stadium to benefit the
Damon Runyon Foundation. The race went through the concourses, up about 200 stairs, down ramps, and best of all, around the field. We ran twice around the warning track and got to see what it's like down on the field. Looking up and seeing myself on the Jumbotron was just about the coolest thing ever.
The race was well organized, had lots of SWAG, and the volunteers did a great job. Plus, as I mentioned in a previous post, the Damon Runyon Foundation does fine work, and 100% of the donations from today's event went straight to funding the best and brightest cancer researchers.
Staten Island Half Marathon Race Report
Yesterday was our annual pilgramage to a faraway land for the Staten Island Half. We took our Nike 26.2 crew and our happy Jack Rabbits and went for a 7-9 mile warm up before the race as their last NYC Marathon long run, so most folks weren't worried about time.
Still, our the City Coach Staten Island contingent of Lauri and Agnes was there to race. Lauri set a course PR and finished 5th in her AG with 1:45:32, while Agnes squeaked in at 1:45:30. Well done, ladies.
