Just because Ms. NSQ was poking me, I guess I better just be out with it. I don't like to admit it, I really don't, but this year, January won.
There it was, the new year, I was all excited to be recovered from Philly and start training for a true Green Light Comeback (or something). The bike commute would be back in force. I'd keep running mileage up and even bring in speedwork. I might (shocker) even get in the pool. And, well, I don't have to tell you. Weather + work + weather + more work... January won. I ended the month in worse shape than I started.
I'm not proud. I am, however, humbled. Here's one lesson from it all: good intentions aren't going to get you anywhere, and sometimes it's ok to admit defeat. The reality of when I have to train right now means that I am very weather dependent. This year, it meant January won.
Last week or so has been better. The glaciers have receded, meaning I can be on my bike again and run in the dark. It's getting lighter earlier, and staying lighter later. But lesson learned: I'm not making any more bold claims. It's snowed in March every year I can remember.
