Hi! I'm a friend of Ali's and I saw her tweet this post. I have a question: what do you recommend a newbie wear?? That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Hi Theodora, I'm a big fan of Ali's! Good luck with your tri. If it's a sprint, I like wearing speedo briefs (make sure there is a drawstring!), a sportbra, and a tri top. You don't want anything that's baggy, and I think it's a waste of time to put on a shirt after the swim. Worried about your race number? Get a race belt. You can put a little vaseline on your inner thighs if you're worried about chafing on the bike. Anything longer than a sprint I definitely wear tri shorts. If you have more questions, feel free to ask and I can always send you a personal e-mail. Hope this helps, N
BTW, there are tri specific unitards out there. They're pricey, and a pain if you want to use the rest room. I haven't tried it yet, but my teammate Terry Moore is a big fan.

Theodora - Just a quick addendum to NSQ's post. Tri tank/tri shorts is the most popular option. The shorts are comfortable and dry fast, neither piece causes any significant drag in the water. As NSQ mentions, briefs are preferred by some, tri suits are preferred by others. Whatever it is, make sure it's something you'll wear for the entire event.
