And The Bronze Goes To....

...Yvonne Kingon.  Preliminary results showed Yvonne in 4th Place in her age group at last week's Westchester Triathlon.  Interestingly, the woman who was credited with finishing 3rd had no splits shown in the results.  And today she was absent from the Brightroom photos.  After annoying the crap out of the Head Referee and Race Director for the last week, I am happy to announce that Yvonne is now officially the 3rd Place finisher in the 40-44 AG.  Last week we uncover the conspiracy against Chris Solarz, and now this.  I'm off to study the Magruder films.

A Little More Skin

Another day of salacious blog postings, and another day of heavy traffic.  Today we keep the streak going with Drew Koncz showing a little skin as he nears the finish of his first Half Iron race.  Not too shabby for a guy who could barely swim last year. Tomorrow we'll have photos of Kim Kardashian's triathlon debut.  In the meantime, this photo reminds me of a great article at Bicycle Source.

The Bike Pimp

Based on the heavy traffic to this site yesterday after a fleeting mention of the female anatomy, it seems clear that if we want attention for our humble blog, that provocative language is a more effective means of attracting it than my rambling about triathlon and Seinfeld trivia.  In that spirit, I am reminded of our friend Billy Simmons' long dormant, but still amusing site, www.bikepimp.net.  Where else can you see gems like "lighter than a crackhead on a hunger strike" in a review of a bike?

As Long As It's Not Sleazy

I've been troubled to see that Killer's blog is getting nearly as many hits as mine.  As such, I figured that I needed some keywords that would attract more attention.  Yes - this is a real ad placed on craigslist.  No - not by me.  I particularly like the assurance that it's tastul (sic).

Westchester 2007

Preliminary results from the Westchester Triathlon have been posted.  Here are the highlights:

1. Nate Horne - 2nd of 117 in 35-39 AG
2. Jeannine Bardo - 2nd of 28 in 45-49 AG
3. Yvonne Kingon - 4th of 30 in 40-44 AG
4. Leanne Elisha - 12th of 49 in 25-29 AG

Run the Rock Recount

Perhaps it won't have quite the same historic impact as "Dewey Defeats Truman", but it seems that the proclamation that "Gunderson Beats Solarz" was also premature.  It seems that due to an accidental chip switch with his friend in the first wave, Mr. Gunderson was credited with a time that was two minutes too fast.  Once contacted and informed that he had "won", he came clean.  So....our Chris Solarz is both the 2007 Run the Rock Champion and the new course record holder.  Congratulations Chris.

• Run the Rock.  Emily Kindlon 1st Place, Chris Solarz 1st Place
• Skylands Tri.  Lauri Young, 7th Place 45-49 AG.
• Mighty Hamptons Tri.  Nate Horne 7th overall, 1st in AG, Sarah Harrison 8th of 32 in AG, Rod McClave 1st out of water. 
• Nautica Malibu Tri.  Joe Mihalow, 338th out of 3200

Westchester's coming up this weekend, with Nate, Yvonne, Leanne and Jeannine competing.

Don't Try This At Home

On Saturday, City Coach newbie Chris Solarz broke the previous course record at Run the Rock.  (Depending on the pending inquiry, he either placed 1st or 2nd overall.)  Sunday he did a recovery run of 26.2 miles.  That's right - he ran the Yonkers Marathon the day after the climb.  Thankfully, he's taking it easy this week, and doesn't have another marathon scheduled until this weekend.  (I kid you not.)

Rock Climbing

At Run the Rock today, Killer won the women's race by over a minute.  Chris Solarz was 2nd, in a time that beat the previous course record.   Plus we saw lots of friends - old and new.  Click here for photos.  Congratulations to Emily and Chris.

Niketown Speaker Series

Thursday 9/20 marks the first workshop in the Niketown Speaker Series.  The topic for the evening will be Marathon Training & Racing.  Our guest speakers will be Rebeccah Wassner (USA National Elite Triathlon team, 1:18 Half Marathon PR, 2:55 Marathon PR, former City Coach athlete) and Thom Little (Nike Central Park Track Club, 1:11 Half Marathon PR, 2:25 Marathon PR).  The discussion will include subjects like pacing and course management, long runs, nutrition, tapering and gear.

As if the opportunity to pick the brains of two of the areas top local athletes isn't enough, you'll also have Coach Cane as the moderator, as well as giveaways and even snacks!  See you at Niketown, 57th St b/w 5th & Madison at 8:00.
