In addition to generously supplying Clif Bars and Accelerade to the riders, in order to encourage reaching deep into your
pocket to support Locks of Love, JackRabbit is giving a pair of running shoes
to the donor who guesses the total number of calories burned by the riders
(minimum $25 donation, you can choose from any shoe JackRabbit carries). To
enter this special contest, email your guess to [email protected] no
later than midnight, Friday April 4. Make sure to include in your
email: 1) your caloric guess, 2) the name under which your donation
to Locks of Love was made (either what appears on the check, or the name on the
credit card if donating online), 3) your email and phone number in case
you win. Once again, you can donate here.
The auction to shave my head has officially begun. All proceeds go to Locks Of Love. The auction ends Friday 4/4, with the shaving taking place the morning of the Miles For Mom century. Bid early and often.
Congratulations to our friend Stacy Creamer on her victory at Saturday's Prospect Park Duathlon. (Back when I was just slow - as opposed to slow and injured like I am now - Stacy and I were "teammates" on the Central Park Track Club in much the same way that Michael Jordan and Bill Wennington were teammates on the Bulls.) Her victory was especially noteworthy in that she was the oldest woman in the race. A freezing cold race in March just seemed too cruel even for me, so our crew will make their debut at the Brooklyn Bi in a few weeks.
We're spicing up the website a little bit and including profiles for some of our athletes. First up is Nate Horne, who joined us last year and has been nothing short of super. Though he set the bar high in 2007, there's reason to expect even better in '08. In his spare time, Nate is a physician specializing in allergies and asthma.
Because working 6-7 days/week doesn't keep me busy enough, last night at 2a I decided that I needed another blog. This one - Signs of the Apocalypse - is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to the English Language. I won't rest until everyone is fit, fast, and knows when to use an apostrophe.
Nice interview by our friend Paul Leone with our friend Ramon Bermo at Inside Nike Running. While Ramon's best known nowadays as a coach, don't let his friendly and approachable demeanor fool you - he's a badass athlete. Back in the first year of the Flat as a Pancake Du, he and I left T2 in 4th and 5th place respectively. He patted me on the back, and said "great job buddy". By the time I looked up to say thanks, he was gone.
Anyone who has read our humble blog knows that I was a huge fan of Doug Stern. I recently found this video which clearly and intelligently explains the role of arm recovery in setting up your stroke, as well as how stroke defects can negatively impact your kick.
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
Due to concerns in the Brooklyn community, the date of the 2008 NYRR
Half-Marathon Grand Prix Presented by Continental Airlines: Brooklyn
has been changed from Saturday, April 26, to Saturday, May 3, at 9:00
a.m.
For those who have already
registered, NYRR is offering three options to resolve issues resulting
from this change:
* Leave your entry as it stands and run the race on May 3
* Contact NYRR by 11:59 p.m. on March 31 and request that your entry be
transferred to another equivalent NYRR event of your choice
* Contact NYRR by 11:59 p.m. on March 31 and request a coupon good for
entry to another equivalent NYRR event that you will choose at a later
time
Runners who do not contact NYRR by 11:59 p.m. on March 31 will remain
entered in the NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix Presented by Continental
Airlines: Brooklyn on the new date of May 3, 2008. We apologize for any
inconvenience, and we hope to see you in Brooklyn on May 3.
Here's a recap of what we know (and don't know) about the NYRR Brooklyn Half Marathon.
Originally posted date was 4/27
That was quickly changed to 4/26
NYRR never held the permit for Prospect Park for 4/26. (Wanna guess who does?)
That weekend is the end of Passover, and running through a largely Jewish section of Brooklyn is probably not going to be well received.
On 3/13 NYRR briefly announced that the race would not be held on 4/26
Later on 3/13, NYRR removed said announcement and has reopened registration.
Despite that, it seems highly unlikely that NYRR will hold the race that weekend
We'll try to keep you up to date as soon as details are available. We have dozens of runners in our Jack Rabbit training program as well as lots of City Coach athletes and friends, so hopefully there will be a quick resolution.
