"You take off your clothes, I'll get the beer." - Mark to Matt, as he hurried to make the start of the race.
Last night was the second running of the Official Unofficial City Coach Beer Mile. Here's the recap.
We had six starters, five finishers, and an all-around fun time. Both defending champions - Naterator and G-Lo were absent, and racers were anxious to fill the void and take the title as team Beer Mile champs. From the start it was obvious that the competitors came to race.
In the men's division, when the gun went off, the top men all finished their first beer within 18-24 seconds and took to the track. From the start it was clear that we'd have a tight competition. In the end Troy, Mark and Mike took the top three spots, separated by only 17 seconds. Matt raced his heart (and his guts) out, and was forced to do a penalty lap.
In the women's competition, Leanne showed an aptitude for both aspects of this multisport event as she guzzled with the boys and ran strong. Katie gave it the old party-college try, but ended as a DNF. (As this humble reporter barely runs and never drinks, he's in no position to ridicule anyone's efforts.)
Congratulations to all racers.
