There's a nice write up in the Staten Island Advance about this weekend's Staten Island Duathlon and Triathlon, including a mention of our own Lauri Young.
Lauri Young didn’t start competing in duathlons until her mid-40s. Now at 52, the Sunnyside resident and musical director of Wagner College’s theater department takes the sport so seriously she has a personal trainer, Jonathan Cane of City Coach.
“I was always active growing up, but I wasn’t a competitive athlete. Now, I’m in it to win it,” said Young, a frequent age-group medalist. “There are a lot of parallels between this and theater — you have to live in the moment, you have to make split-second decisions regarding strategy, and you have to be acutely aware of everyone around you.”
Lauri will be joined by City Coachers Agnes Zbylut and Tom Buffolano at this weekend's festivities.
Killer Climbs
Not only has Ms. Kindlon been featured in Metro Sports Magazine, but she recently turned down CNN's invitation. Of course this was much to the chagrin of her greedy coach who is always looking for opportunities to take coverage and credit for the hard work and talent of his athletes. Thankfully Ms. Kindlon consented to be interviewed for an article about stair climbing in today's New York Times. Now if our media consultant could just get her to stop blocking the team singlet with her arm, I'd be all set.
Oh well, it's still a fun article and Emily's still fast.
